Many construction, forestry and farming activities result in disturbed or bare ground that is vulnerable to weather erosion. The silt-laden run-off, plus site debris and other pollutants, often contaminate surrounding land, rivers, streams, lakes and drains – resulting in significant environmental diffuse pollution and potential costly fines.
However, due to the on-going nature of such work, it is generally not possible to protect exposed surfaces until the project is complete. So stormwater from such sites represents a major non-point source of diffuse water pollution in the UK.
TCS Silt Fence Premium is a special, high quality, permeable, technical filter fabric for stormwater surface runoff pollution management. TCS Silt Fence Premium can be installed as an entrenched vertical entrapment fence and is designed to intercept and detain stormwater run-off, trapping harmful silt through settlement and filtration before it leaves the site.

The benefits of the silt fence are increasingly becoming recognised in Britain: The Environment Agency/SEPA Pollution Prevention Guidelines (PPG5) now recommend the use of silt fences to reduce silt transport from exposed ground and stock piles.
Silt fences have also been used extensively in other countries for many years, and their proven performance (Intercepting up to 86% of suspended solids [Horner et al. 1990]) has made them a standard Best Management Practice on a diverse range construction projects, while in-depth research and practical experience has identified the most important characteristics for effective results.
TCS Geotechnics offer three grades of specialised silt fence fabrics used as an entrenched interceptor fence to control pollution caused by silt laden construction site stormwater run-off.
SILT FENCE PREMIUM
Used on the majority of applications. The material has a fibrous yarn woven throughout helping filter smaller particles of silt, whilst maintaining a high permeability.
SILT FENCE HIGHFLOW
Used when the water flows on-site are very high, the material allows more water through than the premium silt fence, but the compromise is the finer particles will pass through.
SILT FENCE BASIC
Domestic use and small scale projects, in which the risk of silt pollution is low.

ANCILLARIES

CLOUT NAILS
Galvanised, extra-large head, clout nails. These are used for securing the silt fence to the timber posts. The nails should be used in conjunction with our protective washers.
Nail Size: 30mm long x 3mm shaft
Nail Pack Size: 2.50kg (approx 1,250 nails)

PROTECTIVE WASHERS
Used as part of the fastening system to fix a variety of materials to wooden stakes. The washer spreads the load of said material on to the fixing screw or nail to prevent tearing.
25mm diameter x 1mm thick.
Delivered in bags of 500.

TIMBER POSTS
Our 1.20m x 50mm diameter machine rounded posts are FSC® certified, so you can have peace of mind that the timber is sustainably sourced and can be traced back to its origin. Machine round with point at one end for ease of installation.
Other post sizes and profiles available on request.
