TCS GABION INSTALLATION

TCS Geotechnics was approached via one of our merchant partners to consult directly with their client to offer assistance in the construction of a gabion retaining wall at the Frankley Water Treatments Works located in Birmingham. The scheme was part of Severn Trent Water’s £300m Birmingham Resilience Project. The Birmingham resilience project work started in 2016 to lay a new 26km pipeline from the River Severn near Stourport on Severn to the water treatment works at Frankley. The new pipeline will significantly improve the resilience of the water supply for over 1.2 million customers across Birmingham and the surrounding areas.

The client was required to excavate, cast concrete blinding, and then install 300 linear metres of Gabion baskets to construct a retaining wall to accommodate the change in level from existing ground to the newly formed concrete structures.

The duration of the works was approximately 6 weeks and during this time TCS Geotechnics supplied a range of gabion sizes to the client via our Merchant customer. The client was very happy with the gabions supplied and how aesthetically pleasing they were once installed. The client also commented on how quickly TCS supplied the gabions required to suit their work schedule and how helpful the after-sale technical support was.
