Ecofender™ Temporary/Semi-Permanent Newt Fences
Ecofender™ Standard Temporary Newt Fences are tough plastic sheets used to temporarily exclude, or contain, newts, frogs, snakes, and other small wild fauna – protecting them from entering hazardous areas (such as construction sites). These systems and conform to the CIRIA “Wildlife Fencing Design Guide” and English Nature “Great Crested Newt Mitigation Guidelines” criteria.
Hy-Tex Ecofender™ Newt Barriers sheets can be fixed to a simple post and rail timber fence, and the bottom edge entrenched to provide an impenetrable barrier. While the smooth sheet surfaces are difficult for reptiles and amphibians to climb. The tough, 1000 gauge, UV stabilised, green, or clear polythene “Standard” grade is designed to resist weather damage – providing reliable protection throughout temporary works. A “Heavy-Duty” 2000 gauge reinforced grade is available for more demanding applications (such as exposed sites) or for more prolonged protection; while a “Woven” grade is available for windy and/or budget solutions. All polymers break down via UV degradation so it is important to consider the length of exposure required. Semi-Permanent barriers will need to be periodically inspected and replaced if degradation has occurred.
Ecofender™ SP1 Semi-Permanent Newt Fences (1mm)
Ecofender™ SP1 Semi-Permanent Newt Fences is a budget option designed for semi-permanent applications requiring a life expectancy of up to 5 years and where there is a medium-level risk of human disturbance. These 1mm thick sheets are supplied in 850mm x 100.00m rolls and have a scored groove 50mm from the top, to aid folding and 100mm from the bottom of the panel to allow the installer to create an underground return if required. Again periodic inspection is advised throughout the working life of the barrier as UV degradation will vary according to local conditions including temperature and shade cover.
Ecofender™ Newt Panels (3mm)
A permanent or long-term fencing system for newts, other amphibians, and reptiles.
This material is stabilised against ultraviolet (UV) damage for up to 15 years.
This material is suited for sites where there is a high-level risk of human disturbance. When correctly installed it provides a barrier that is resistant to vandalism and general site damage. For correct installation, it should be used in conjunction with our wooden stakes. The raw material in this product is sourced from post-consumer and post-manufacturer recycled sources and as such offers a high degree of environmental sustainability. Again periodic inspection is advised throughout the working life of the barrier as UV degradation will vary according to local conditions including temperature and shade cover.
Ecofender™ Elite Permanent Amphibian & Reptile Guidance Barriers
Ecofender™ Elite Permanent Amphibian & Reptile Guidance Barrier is a robust material for permanent exclusion and mitigation projects.
It has a dual lip barrier and different heights to safeguard a variety of wildlife. It’s also easy to work with if cutting, screwing, or drilling and can be secured into the ground with pointed posts for simple installation.
Ecofender™ Snake Fences
Our Ecofender™ Snake Fences are designed to keep grass snakes and other small reptiles out of the dangers construction sites may pose.
Our Ecofender™ snake fence comes in two heights; 1.2m for our 1mm HDPE and 1.38m for our woven fence. Utilising this extra height helps prevents entry from grass snakes and other small reptiles.
Our Ecofender™ Snake Fences both come in 100m lengths. This means less joins and potential areas of weakness, as well as increased efficiency of installation. Both Ecofender™ Snake Fences are UV Stabilised with the additional sustainable benefit that the 1mm HDPE is manufactured from recycled polymer.
For life expectancy, our 1mm HDPE has a life expectancy of up to 5 years, while the woven has an anticipated life of up to 7 years.
